23-24 Wolves Women's Soccer Season Recap
Coach David Owens welcomed 16 freshmen to the 2023-24 Wolves team, adding to a talented returning sophomore class. Beginning the season with a deep roster, the team blended together to press other teams with their offensive pressure and stubborn defense. Though a number of key players missed playing time due to injury, the team consistently battled to keep games within reach. The Wolves earned the 3rd seed in the NJCAA Region XVI post season tournament, earning the right to host a match on their home field.
MCC played Jefferson College in the quarterfinal bracket of the post-season tournament, ultimately winning the match 1-0. With the victory, the Wolves advanced to the semi-final round where they were matched up with the St. Louis Archers. For two halves the closely matched teams battled to a 0-0 tie. The contest was ultimately decided in the second overtime period, where St. Louis advanced by a score of 1-0.
Coaches and players alike are to be commended for the team's accomplishments and growth throughout the season. There were a number of exciting contests, a tribute to the talent and determination on the field. Best of luck to our graduating sophomore class of Shelby Troxel, Jessica Baker, Emma Robinson, Brooklyn Dickens and Katelyn Smith.
