NIL Information
The following information is an overview of MCC NIL rules.
No Inducements or Pay for Play. NIL compensation cannot be used as an inducement to attend Metropolitan Community College and cannot be contingent on the student-athletes athletics performance. Student-Athletes may not earn NIL-related compensation provided in exchange for their athletic performance or attendance at the institution.
No Institutional Involvement. All employees of Metropolitan Community College, including Coaches and Athletics Department staff members, Faculty, Staff, Administration, and Board Members, are not permitted to compensate or cause compensation to be directed to a student-athlete, a prospective student-athlete, or their family members for NIL activities. Businesses interested in hiring MCC student-athletes for NIL activities should CLICK HERE for more information.
Conflicts with Team Activities. Student-Athletes cannot participate in NIL activities during official team events (games, practices, community services, media or other team sponsored events). Furthermore, student-Athletes are not permitted to miss class in order to participate in any NIL activities.
Student-Athlete Disclosure Requirements. Student-athletes must disclose all NIL activities and agreements prior to signing the agreement and prior to receiving compensation. The NIL disclosure form is accessed through the Athletics Website HERE.
Professional Service Providers (Agents, Attorneys). Student-athletes may hire an attorney or agent only for NIL activities. Student-athletes continue to be prohibited from agreeing to be represented for future professional athletic contract negotiations.
Selling or Reselling Memorabilia and Merchandise. Student-athletes cannot sell awards, apparel, or equipment provided to them by the Metropolitan Community College.
Institutional Trademarks. Student-Athletes are prohibited from using MCC official logos, marks or other trademarked images of the college, unless granted written permission from the College Marketing Department and the Director of Athletics. Additionally, student-athletes may not give permission for a third party to use MCC marks and logos unless granted permission from the College Marketing Department and the Director of Athletics.
Conflicts. Student-athletes cannot enter into NIL agreements with vendors associated with activities prohibited by NJCAA rules, state or federal laws, or which conflict with institutional conduct expectations. Missouri state law limit student-athletes’ ability to execute contracts and/or engage in NIL activities if a conflict exists with a university or athletic department contract or agreement, except with the prior written consent of the institution.
Use of Institutional Facilities. Student-Athletes may use institutional facilities for individual NIL opportunities related to hosting a sports camp/clinic subject to the terms of a facility use agreement and availability. All facility reservation requests must go through the official Athletic Department Facility Rentals Requests process.
Education. Student-Athletes are advised to review any NJCAA and NCAA rules that relate to compensation. MCC shall not be responsible for any student’s ineligibility or other consequence of violating an NJCAA or NCAA rule as a result of that student’s entering into an agreement for the use of their name, image or likeness.
Need-Based Aid. Pell Grant and other need-based financial aid may be affected by a student-athletes NIL income. Questions related to financial aid eligibility should be directed to the MCC office of Financial AID.
International Student-Athletes. International Student-Athletes on an F-1 Visa may not be eligible to earn compensation due to federal work restrictions. Any international student must consult with the MCC international coordinator if they have individual questions involving NIL. Failure to do so may affect immigration status.
