Bio
David Owens has served as Head Coach of MCC's Men's Soccer program since 2007 and of MCC's Women's Soccer program since 2015. He received his BA degree in Sociology from Gonzaga University, and an MA in Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia University Irvine. Prior to arriving at MCC, Coach Owens served as the assistant coach at Rogers High School in Washington State. He also coaches competitive soccer for the Union KC Soccer Club. David participated with "People to People Sports Ambassadors" program from 2002-2011, featuring soccer athletes in international tournament competition.
Coach Owens has received a number of coaching awards while at MCC, including the NJCAA Region XVI Men's Soccer Coach of the Year in 2010 and in 2014. He was the NJCAA Region XVI Women's Co-Coach of the Year in 2018. Owens coached his teams to the Region XVI Championship in 2010, 2014, and 2018.
When not playing or coaching soccer, David enjoys Kansas City BBQ, spending quality time with his family in Kansas City, as well as traveling to visit family in Canada and his home state of Washington. Because of the success of Sporting Kansas City, the addition of the professional (NWSL) women's team, the Pinnacle National Development Center and the number of multiplex soccer complexes, Coach Owens believes Kansas City has positioned itself to be crowned "Soccer Town, USA". With all its resources, Kansas City is a great place to play, to coach, or simply be a fan of the sport of soccer.
