Headed to Nationals!
MCC golfer Kate Braden grabbed a coveted invitation to the 2024 NJCAA Division I Women's Golf Championship by placing first at the Central District tournament held on April 22-23 in Joplin, Missouri. Kate placed first overall in a field of 43 golfers representing 9 different schools from Regions 4, 13, 16 and 24.
The two-day tournament was hosted by Twin Hills Golf and Country Club. The tough course and unrelenting wind contributed to relatively high scores by the entire field. According to MCC Golf Coach Ron Filipowicz, "Kate does a beautiful job in managing her game, and really earned that number 1 finish." Braden won with a two-day total of 170 (84/86), saving par on the last hole of the competition to win by one stroke.
By virtue of her win, Kate was honored along with three other golfers as First Team All-Region 16.
The NJCAA Women's National Golf Tournament took place May 19-24 in Melbourne, Florida and featured four days of 18-hole play, with 15 teams and a total of 86 golfers representing 23 schools. Braden finished the tournament in 61st place, shooting 83/86/88/82. MCC Golf Coach Ron Filipowicz predicted the warm weather combined with the 4 days of play would be quite a challenge for Kate. At the tournament's conclusion, Filipowicz was a VERY proud coach. "Kate remained steady, played to her strengths", powering through fatigue to have her best round on the final day of tournament.
SUPER SHOW, Kate! Way to represent MCC GOLF! We can't wait to see you lead Wolves Golf in the 2024-2025 season!
